How Does Your Energy Perform

All domestic and commercial buildings in the UK available to buy or rent must have an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC).
EPCs report how energy efficient a building is and give it a rating from A (very efficient) to G (inefficient). EPCs inform the person using the building how costly it will be to heat and light, and what its carbon dioxide emissions are likely to be. They are valid for ten years from the date it has been issued.
David Gascoyne, Sales & Lettings Manager of Residential Estates said “EPCs are needed whenever a property is built, sold or rented and an EPC must be ordered before the property is on the market”.
The EPC will also state what the energy-efficiency rating could be if improvements are made, and highlights cost-effective ways to achieve a better rating. Even if you rent your home, some improvements noted on the EPC may be worth implementing, such as switching to more energy-efficient light bulbs.
To get an EPC, an accredited assessor is needed who will assess your property and produce the certificate. Without doing this, landlords and homeowners can be fined if they have no EPC when they need one and they must show the certificate to potential tenants/buyers if they are letting or selling their home.
